I recently saw the Karen Carpenter documentary "Starving for Perfection" which was directed by Randy Martin. The documentary was really well done, including interviews from many individuals who knew her. I appreciated that the documentary addressed the anorexia from which Carpenter died in a way that felt respectful. For any fans of The Carpenters, this documentary is a must-see event, but for many others who are interested in learning more about fame and psychiatric vulnerability can mix with extreme talent, they will deeply appreciate this thoughtful documentary.
As a psychologist for over 20 years, I share a few insights about anorexia and urge anyone who is suffering with eating issues to ask for help -- because help is always available and every human life is worth it!
You can check out my brief Couch Commentary video on the documentary below, also included on my YouTube channel, Dr. Seth: Psychologist.
