This behavior -- almost fixating on a person in that you spend a lot of time and energy trying to figure them out -- is often a very bad sign in a relationship. It can be a sign that shows that you don't feel trusting of who that person and what their motives are. In addition, if that person is a poor communicator and out of touch with their own feelings, having a relationship with this kind of person can make you feel like you have to spend extra time figuring them out or you otherwise wouldn't have any idea what they are truly thinking, feeling, or believing.
