In the past, psychologists mostly believed that talk therapy -- talking about symptoms and the past -- was what was required for healing. Over time, however, mental health experts have realized that a multitude of modalities can be helpful in treating trauma.
Specifically, it is becoming more understood in the mental health field that trauma treatment benefits from a body (or somatic component).
